Police are calling for witnesses in relation to an assault and stealing incident that occurred in Parap today.

It is alleged a female was attacked from behind at the Parap Shops at about 9:20 this morning. A male approached the woman and snatched her red bag with an amount of cash inside and a gold necklace from her neck before fleeing toward the Stuart Highway.

The offender is described as a man of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 18 -19-years of age, slim build, messy hair, wearing black pants, a dirty white shirt and dirty runners.

Police are currently patrolling the area.
