A woman is in hospital and her husband is in custody following a domestic disturbance at the Amoonguna community at the weekend.

Police received a report just before 10am on Saturday that a woman had been injured after her husband allegedly hit her in the head with a shovel.

The 31-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to Alice Springs Hospital where she remains in a stable condition. The alleged offender was arrested by police at a town camp in Alice Springs on Sunday morning. The 34-year-old man was refused bail and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court charged with assault causing serious harm, being armed with an offensive weapon and driving disqualified.
