Police are investigating an incident in which a man was assaulted in Traeger Avenue on Friday night.

The victim told police he was walking along Traeger Avenue towards Gap Road about 11.30pm on Friday when he was approached by three youths who asked him for a cigarette. The man ignored them and continued walking, when the three youths were joined by another three on bicycles. One of the youths grabbed him around the neck while another punched him to the side of the head. They then fled, taking the man's "Coopers" cap and Rayban sunglasses with them.

Police are appealing to witnesses to the incident to come forward. Anyone with information should phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
