Police are seeking public assistance after a woman was assaulted in Alice Springs overnight.

Police received reports just before 10.30 of an assault on Gap Road last night.

A 28-year-old woman told police she was walking along Gap Road at approximately 10.06pm when a man in a white utility drove up beside her and called out to her.

The man allegedly got out of his vehicle and assaulted the woman who then ran to The Dustbowl Tenpin Bowling Centre.

The man is described as a tall Caucasian, wearing light coloured jeans and t-shirt with dark medium length hair and aged 17 to 20-years-old.

Police are seeking the occupants of a vehicle who may have seen a small woman of Asian appearance run out from the direction of Breaden Street and onto Gap Road around 10.15 last night to contact police on 131 444.
