Arrests - Hermannsburg

Police

Four people were arrested after police found liquor in their vehicle at Hermannsburg last night.

The driver of the vehicle did a u-turn as he approached an RBT station within the boundary of the restricted community of Hermannsburg just after 8.30 last night. Police pursued the Ford falcon sedan for approximately five kilometres along Larapinta Drive before the offender stopped the car.

Police searched the vehicle and found 39 cans of VB and a bottle of Bundaberg.

The 39-year-old male driver allegedly struck one of the police officers in the stomach as he was being arrested. The driver was found to have a blood alcohol content of .076%. He has been charged with:

Failing to stop at an RBT
Drive manner dangerous
Bring and control liquor in a prescribed area
Drive an unsafe motor vehicle
Drive low range blood alcohol content
Resist police

The man has been bailed to appear in the Hermannsburg Magistrates Court on January 11.

Acting Superintendent Darrell Kerr said police would be targeting grog-running and drink drivers in and around restricted communities over the holidays.

" This recent grog seizure should serve as a timely reminder that police will be out in force over the Christmas period to prevent drink driving and the transportation of liquor into communities. "
