Arrests for break-ins–Alice Springs

Police

Three people will appear in court after allegedly stealing more than $1000 worth of alcohol from an Alice Springs club yesterday.

Police received a report just before 4am yesterday that the Memorial Club in Gap Road had been broken into and a large quantity of liquor stolen. Thieves smashed a glass panel in one of the doors to gain entry to the club. Inspection of the club's security footage showed the building was unlawfully entered four times during the course of the night - just after 1am and then again at 2.13am, 2.35am and just after 3.30am.

During one of the incidents the security footage shows the offenders entering the main bar of the premises and using an esky belonging to the club to steal the liquor. A 34-year-old man was arrested by police in the Todd River with the stolen esky around 6am yesterday. He will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates court today.

Three more males aged 13, 12 and 22 were also arrested yesterday for the break-ins. The 13-year-old will be considered for Youth Diversion, while the 12-year-old has been bailed to appear in the Youth Justice Court on February 12. The 22-year-old will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today. They have all been charged with unlawful entry of a building at night with intent to commit a crime and stealing. The 22-year-old has also been charged with criminal damage.

Police said the latest incident was the sixth time in two days that the club was unlawfully entered.

On Tuesday morning a 16-year-old female and a ten-year-old male were allegedly part of a group of offenders who unlawfully entered the same premises. During the course of two break-ins more than $700 worth of alcohol was stolen. The pair was arrested at short time later. The female has been charged with unlawful entry, stealing and criminal damage. She will appear in court on February 12. The 10-year-old will be considered for Youth Diversion.

Police believe several more offenders were involved in the break-ins and investigations are continuing.
