The Commander's Tactical Team (CTT) have arrested a 37-year-old male in relation to an unlawful entry that occurred yesterday morning at a cafe in Nightcliff.
At approximately 2:30 am it is alleged that the male smashed a window at the Groove Cafe on Progress Drive with a rock, before using a trolley to smash a larger hole to gain entry, causing approximately $1 200 worth of damage.
He then removed 24 cans of beer from the display fridge, placed them in the trolley and fled the area.
Police were called again at around 11:00 am yesterday after the male, that staff had viewed in CCTV footage, was witnessed walking past the cafe.
CTT members attended and arrested the male, charging him with:
Aggravated unlawful entry of a building with intent
Damage property
Stealing
Superintendent Rob Jordan of the Casuarina Operational Service Division said that this was a great result.
"This is a great example of how useful CCTV footage is in offences like this.
"I urge all business owners to seriously think about installing these systems and if they are in place, this is definitely a timely reminder to maintain them.
"We do all that we can to apprehend offenders, however the added benefit of footage certainly makes our job easier and puts these guys behind bars quicker" he said.
