Arrest for unlawful entries – Tennant Creek

Police have arrested and charged a teenager believed responsible for a series of incidents in Tennant Creek.

Police received reports of an unlawful entry of a residential property on Casey Street on Monday 11 May.

The 17-year-old male gained entry into the house and stole more than $20,000 worth of property including a piece of antique jewellery worth $10,000.

The offender targeted the same house on Tuesday 12 May at 1.30am and stole the occupants car, which was later found crashed into a light pole on Hollis Street in Tennant Creek.

A series of charges have been laid against the teenager and include:

Trespassing
Two counts of Entering an occupied dwelling at night to commit crime
Three counts of stealing
Enter a building at night with intent
Unlawful use of a motor vehicle and cause damage over $1000
Unlawfully damage motor vehicle serious nature
Fail to report a crash
Drive without due care and attention
Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
Interfere with a motor vehicle


The antique piece of jewellery was recovered in Katherine by police on Tuesday and a further two items with a total value of $2250 was recovered by local police yesterday.

The male appeared in the Tennant Creek District Court earlier this week and has been remanded to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Monday 25 May.
