Arrest – Darwin City

Police

Members of the Commander's Tactical Team arrested a 24-year-old male in Darwin City on Sunday night in relation to several offences.

It is alleged that at approximately 2:00 am on Sunday morning the male unlawfully entered a Toyota Hilux that was parked on Mitchell Street, stealing several items including a laptop computer and an item of jewellery.

At approximately 1:00 pm Sunday, it is alleged that he unlawfully entered an area of a backpackers hostel, stealing a number of electrical items.

At approximately 7:50 pm he smashed through a glass panel at a Pharmacy in the Mitchell Centre, stealing a quantity of medication before being apprehended by members of the public that were in the area at the time.

He was held there until police arrived a short time later.

He was then conveyed to the Darwin Watch House and was later charged with:

Interfere with a motor vehicle
Stealing from a motor vehicle
Unlawfully possess property
Criminal damage
Enter a business at night with intent
stealing

The 24-year-old male was remanded in custody and is to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan of the Commander's Tactical Team said that it was a great example of police and members of the public working together to remove offenders from our streets.
