Arrest for dangerous driving – Alice Springs - 4317558

A man will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court after he was arrested and charged with dangerous driving overnight.

Police alleged that just after 7pm yesterday a Holden Commodore failed to give way to an approaching marked police vehicle driving west on Larapinta Drive, causing the police vehicle to brake heavily to avoid collision.

Police activated lights and sirens however the offender sped away and continued to drive dangerous onto the path of on-coming cars.

Police followed the vehicle for a short time before stopping due to the high speeds reached by the offender's car.

Police alleged the offender reach speeds of 130kmph in a 70kmph zone.

The vehicle was later located at a house on Saltwell Street and the offender was found hiding in a bedroom.

The 27-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs watch house where he provided a positive blood alcohol test of 0.226per cent.

He was charged with:

Driving a motor vehicle while disqualified
Drive with high range blood alcohol content
Failing to provide personal particulars
Fail to obey direction of police officer
Drive motor vehicle which is unsafe to drive
Exceed speed limit by 45kmph

The man appeared in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
