Alice Springs Police have arrested a man after causing a disturbance overnight.

Police received a report just after 11.30pm of a man walking down Bloomfield Street brandishing a machete and yelling abuse.

Police confronted the man who continued to resist police orders and shortly after deployed a taser to disarm him.

The man was taken into custody and has been charged with being armed with an offensive weapon, offensive behaviour in public and resisting police.

He will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court this morning.
