Police have apprehended an 18-year-old male in relation to the suspicious item located in Darwin City yesterday.

Police received reports at around 2:30 pm yesterday that a male had left a black backpack in a book store in the Mall, stating that there was a bomb inside.

Territory Response Section members attended the scene however soon determined it to be a hoax.

The offender was located at 6:20 pm last night in a bar on Mitchell Street and conveyed to the Darwin Police Station.

He is to be summonsed to appear in court at a later date to face charges of cause substantial annoyance to another.
