Anzac Day Traffic Campaign – Alice Springs

Police

Police will be launching an Anzac Day Traffic campaign on Saturday to encourage safe driving during the weekend.

Sergeant Conan Robertson from the Southern Traffic Operations unit said extra random breath testing units (RBT) would be targeting drink drivers as part of the campaign.

Sergeant Robertson said the arrival of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club promised larger crowds for the ceremony on Saturday morning.

"We're expecting 140 motorbike riders from the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club to arrive in town for Anzac Day Celebrations.

"We will escort the riders into town and to the service on the morning.

"However it is a timely reminder for other drivers on the road to respect motorbike riders and to drive carefully.

"We also need to remind people not to drink and drive as random breath testing units will be targeting drink drivers and unregistered vehicles."

Road closures can be expected on Saturday as part of Anzac Day celebrations.
