Alleged sexual assault – Katherine

Katherine Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 33-year-old woman that occurred on Wednesday night in Katherine.

Police received a report about 9.00 pm that a woman was lying on the ground asleep at the intersection of Quinn Street and the Victoria Highway and may have been sexually assaulted. The woman was located and conveyed to the Katherine District Hospital.

It's believed the woman had allegedly been consuming alcohol earlier in the evening with friends at the Katherine Hotel. A door knock was conducted but as yet police have not been able to identify any possible witnesses to the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area and saw any suspicious persons or activity, or has information that could assist police with their investigation, to call 131 444, Katherine Police Station on 89738 000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
