Aggravated assault – Alice Springs

Police

A man will face court after allegedly assaulting his wife in Alice Springs at the weekend.

Police received a report in the early hours of Saturday morning of a domestic disturbance at a unit in Aneura Place. The 34-year-old female victim told police her husband had grabbed her by the throat during an argument and bashed her head into the wall several times. The 39-year-old man then allegedly put a pillow over her face causing her to lose consciousness.

When she regained consciousness he allegedly beat her with a coat hanger before leaving the residence.

An ambulance took the woman to the Alice Springs Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Just after 1pm on Saturday the alleged offender was arrested when police found him hiding in a cupboard at the unit.

He has been charged with aggravated assault and breaching a domestic violence order. He was remanded in custody and appeared in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
