NT Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) is the Territory's home of emergency management. We deliver fire, emergency and disaster management services across the Northern Territory through its service arms: NT Fire and Rescue Service, NT Emergency Service and Bushfires NT.
NTFES works to protect life, property and the environment through prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
Our service arms respond to a wide range of incidents and emergencies, including
- bushfires
- structure fires
- floods
- cyclones
- road crash rescues
- other natural and human-caused hazards.
With staff based across the Territory, our professional workforce of professional personnel and dedicated volunteers delivers coordinated frontline emergency response, community safety initiatives and preparedness programs to support Territorians before, during and after emergencies.
The NTFES Strategic Plan 2025–2028 outlines the agency's long-term direction and priorities. It guides our efforts to enhance emergency management capability, strengthen community resilience and deliver contemporary, effective services across the Northern Territory.
It defines our vision, purpose and values, and provides a framework for measuring performance and achieving meaningful outcomes for Territorians.
NT Fire and Rescue Service
NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) responds to incidents in the relevant emergency response areas. These incidents include bushfires and structure fires, road crash rescues, hazardous material incidents, structural collapses and more.
The service is made up of highly trained career firefighters and supported by axuliaryauxiliary and volunteer firefighters. NTFRS also leads fire prevention initiatives, safety education programs and community preparedness activities.

NT Emergency Service
NT Emergency Service (NTES) specialises in land search and rescue, storm and cyclone response, flood operations and community support during natural disasters.
Working closely with partner agencies, NTES plays a vital role in community preparedness, emergency response and post-disaster recovery.

Bushfires NT
Bushfires NT provides fire management support in the fire protection zones across rural and remote regions of the Territory. The service arm works with landholders, Indigenous ranger groups and volunteers to reduce fire risk through planned burning, fire prevention programs and community education.
Bushfires NT supports safe land management practices and helps protect communities and landscapes from bushfire impacts.

NTFES Strategy and Performance
Strategy and Performance is the corporate services function of NTFES and includes strategic planning, policy, legal services, media and communications, work health and safety, ministerial liaison, and finance.
