What category is the critical incident?
The Wellbeing Services team separates critical incidents into 2 categories: Category A and Category B

Category A incidents involve potentially traumatic events that have a profound impact on NTP and NTFES personnel, such as:
  • An employee or volunteer has witnessed or been confronted by the death or serious injury of a colleague, family member or close friend.
  • Any incident involving serious threats from firearms, or in which a member is fired upon, or returns fire.
  • Any other situation in which there is a serious threat to the life or safety of an employee or volunteer (including the sexual assault of said person).
  • Situations involving serious injury to, sexual assault of, or the death of, a child.
  • Any domestic violence incident where an employee or volunteer is a participant (the participants along with any attending/investigating worker should be included in the notification).
  • Any incident where an employee or volunteer is requested to check on the welfare of another employee or volunteer.
Category B incidents involve events where:
  • An employee or volunteer, through the course of their duty, has witnessed or been confronted by a traumatic event in which a member of the public has died or sustained serious injury.
  • Any other event that, in the opinion of the manager or supervisor, has the potential to produce, or has produced, a high level of immediate or delayed emotional reaction in one or more employees or volunteers.

In some cases, a CIN may not be appropriate, particularly when dealing with personal issues not directly related to workplace trauma. This includes situations like general mental or physical health concerns, interpersonal conflicts, or relationship and parenting issues. If you have concerns about a colleague in these areas, please contact Wellbeing Services at (08) 8995 5422 or email WellbeingServices@pfes.nt.gov.au for support or to make a referral.
