Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol and drugs destined for remote communities.

On Friday 15 March 2024, Detectives from the Southern Criminal Investigation Branch and the Dog Operations Unit intercepted a vehicle at a random testing station in Erldunda.

Drug Detection Dog Yeva located around 30 litres of alcohol and 700 grams of cannabis, believed to destined for the community of Mutitjulu and surrounds.

The 37-year-old driver was issued a Notice to Appear for secondary supply and drug offences.

Acting Senior Sergeant Michael Curtiss said “The supply and distribution of alcohol and illicit drugs in remote communities has far reaching consequences and is often a driver of Domestic and Family Violence.

“NT Police through the Substance Abuse and Intelligence Desk in Alice Springs will continue to proactively target anyone who attempts to bring alcohol and drugs into restricted areas.

“To anyone who thinks this is a lucrative market, you never know when we will be on the roads  and police will catch up with you”
