Call for witnesses - Grass fire arson - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service are investigating a grass fire in Sadadeen that occurred yesterday afternoon.

Just before 3:00pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report of a grass fire along the intersection of Sadadeen Road and Stott Terrace.

Upon arrival at the scene, Fire and Rescue Service found multiple fires in the area close to property and causing a large amount of smoke over the roads.

Four Grass Fire Units, 1 Tanker and an Incident Command vehicle were deployed to the location and successfully gained control of the fire within an hour of the initial call.

The grass fire claimed 2 vehicles and a carport, with property damage to neighbouring yards.

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated, with joint efforts of Fire Investigators and the Northern Territory Police.
