Arrests – Traffic offences – Katherine

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested two males, aged 18 and 20, for traffic and summary offences.

Police observed the two males intoxicated and fighting in a car park on Katherine Terrace around 8:00 yesterday morning. The 18-year-old male left the scene and was located in a nearby vehicle with his 20-year-old passenger. Police attempted to apprehend the vehicle which resulted in the 18-year-old reversing down a one way street and losing traction. The vehicle came to a stop in the middle of Railway Terrace where the driver attempted to flee on foot. He was apprehended by police a short time after. During this time, the 20-year-old male entered the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away. He reversed the vehicle several metres and hit a kerb prior to being arrested by police.

The 20-year-old male is expected to be charged with:
• Drive Medium Range Blood Alcohol Content
• Unlicensed Person In Front With Learner
• Fight In A Public Place

The 18-year-old s expected to be charged with:
• Drive Medium Range Blood Alcohol Content
• Drive Wrong Way On One Way Street
• Drive Vehicle Causing Loss Of Traction
• Drive Vehicle In A Manner Dangerous
• Learner Driver - No Person In Front Seat
• Drive Without L Plates When Required
• Disorderly Behaviour In Public Place
• Fight In A Public Place
• Breach Of Bail

The 18-year-old is scheduled to appear in Katherine Local Court today. The 20-year-old is scheduled to appear on 14 August 2019.
