Police Rain on Offenders During Wet Season Operation - Katherine

Police

Thirty-seven people have been arrested during a special Wet Season operation in Katherine.

Acting Superintendent Gavin Kennedy said the six week operation was developed to target anti-social behaviour and property crime during the school holiday period.

“Historically during the Wet Season, there is an increase in the number of people travelling to Katherine from outlying communities. This coupled with the school holidays creates an increase in alcohol related offences, anti-social behaviour and property related offending.”

“The operation has been a success with Police attached to the operation making 37 arrests for various offences and non-compliance with court orders. A further six summonses have been issued for property related offending and a further 46 infringement notices were issued for anti-social offending in and around the Katherine CBD.”

“During this time Police have recovered around $2,200 worth of stolen property. So far, this Christmas school holiday period has seen approximately a third less property related offences than the previous Christmas school holiday period.”

“Police will continue to target anti-social behaviour and property related offending in Katherine,” Acting Superintendent Kennedy said.
