Offender Summonsed Over Firearm Incident - Shady Camp

Police

Water Police Officers have summonsed a 32 year-old man for firearm offences following reports of anti-social behaviour at the popular fishing spot of Shady Camp.

Senior Sergeant Paul Faustmann said Police had conducted patrols of the area in response to public information.

“The information received in this case assisted Police to apprehend a group of males who were creating a disturbance by unlawfully discharging a firearm.  The .22 magnum rifle and ammunition has been seized by Police.”

Senior Sergeant Faustmann said the man has been charged with possessing an unregistered firearm, discharging a firearm in a public place and possessing a firearm without a valid licence.

A 30 year-old man also received a drug infringement notice after he was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis.

“Police would like to thank the members of the public who have bought this to our attention.  It is the people who do the right thing and are out to enjoy what our Territory has to offer that are greatly affected by the actions of a few uncaring individuals.  This sort of behaviour is dangerous, illegal and will not be tolerated.”

Senior Sergeant Faustmann said people should report any anti-social behaviour, including illegal fishing, the harming of wildlife or dangerous behaviour to Police on 131 444.  Members of the public can also report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Fish Watch on 1800 891 136.
