Man Arrested for Assault Police – Tennant Creek

An 18-year-old male is to appear in the Tennant Creek Court later this month to face a number of charges, including assault Police.

Superintendent Craig Barrett said it is alleged the man punched a stationary vehicle on Bornite Street at around 7:20pm last night.

“It is alleged the man walked out into traffic and as Daihatsu hatchback approached, he walked towards it and he punched the windscreen, causing it to crack,” Superintendent Barrett said.

“The man then walked to Scheelite Crescent and punched the front window of a house, causing it to smash.

“Police apprehended the man at the scene; however he became highly agitated and attempted to assault the Police Officers. He was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a minor cut to his arm whilst verbally abusing Police and hospital staff.

“The man was taken to the Watch House and it was at this time, he allegedly spat on a Police Officer whilst continuing to verbally abuse them.”

The man was charged with:

·        Assault Police (x3)

·        Damage to property

·        Disorderly behaviour in a Police Station

·        Disorderly behaviour in public.

“Police work 24 hours a day, seven days a week to keep people safe and will not tolerate being assaulted whilst executing their duties,” Superintendent Barrett said.
