Child Rescued – Elizabeth River

Police

Police again urge fishing enthusiasts to plan ahead following the rescue of a 12-year-old boy in Elizabeth River overnight.

Sergeant Darren Robson said the child and two friends had been fishing throughout the day during low tide.

“The tide came in quickly and stranded the child on a power tower near the Palmerston Boat Ramp,” Sergeant Robson said.

“Police were contacted at around 7:20pm and two General Duties officers from the Palmerston Police Station attended.

“The Police Officers waded through rising waist deep water and rescued the child, returning him safely to his father.

“With crocodiles known to frequent the area these Officers placed themselves at risk to ensure the welfare of the child. It could have had a very different ending. I strongly advise anyone planning to go fishing, whether in a boat or on land, to plan ahead. Check tide times, weather conditions and constantly assess the ever changing environmental conditions as you enjoy the outdoors.”
