Assault Arrest - Darwin

Police

A 27-year-old man will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court this morning following the assault of a 26-year-old female on Wednesday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board of the Serious Crime Squad said the 26-year-old female and another female were walking along Wilmot Street at around 11:00 pm when they were approached by a man who was known to them.

“It is alleged the man armed himself with an axe and approached a 33-year- old male threatening to hit him with the axe before punching the 26-year-old woman causing her to fall to the ground,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Board.

“The man has then allegedly assisted the female victim into his car and left the area.

“An extensive investigation commenced utilising all available resources and the woman was located safe in Karama around midday yesterday.

“The man was arrested a short time later in Darwin City and he has since been charged with aggravated assault (x2), breach domestic violence order, armed with offensive weapon at night and drive unlicenced."

He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
