Arrest – Criminal Damage - Katherine

Police arrested a 24-year-old man on Friday night, approximately five minutes after causing significant damage to vehicles, parked at the Katherine Police Station.

Acting Superintendent Clint Sims said Detectives from the Northern Domestic and Personal Violence Prevention Unit arrested the man from Barunga on Katherine Terrace at around 9:45pm.

“It is alleged the jumped on a roof of a car, causing it to cave in,” Acting Superintendent Sims said.

“He also allegedly smashed two windscreens and kicked off a mirror on a third car before attempting to flee the area.”

The man was also witnessed throwing rocks at passing cars.

He was arrested and placed into custody and has been charged with criminal damage (x3).

“The man was believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the offences and when asked why he caused the damage, he gave no reason.

“In total the damage is believed to be around $5,000.”
