Youth arrested twice over the weekend - Alice Springs

A 17-year-old male youth will appear in court today after he was arrested and charged by Police twice over the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Janelle Snigg said the youth was first arrested after he allegedly caused a significant amount of damage to eight vehicles parked in the CBD on Saturday morning.

“It is alleged that between midnight and 5:30 am, the youth targeted vehicles parked in the vicinity of Todd Street, Leichardt Terrace and Stott Terrace.

“All the vehicles had their windscreens smashed and we estimate in excess of about $6000 in combined damage.

“The youth was charged with eight counts of unlawfully damage property and one count of disorderly behaviour in public.

“The youth was granted bail with conditions and was later located by Police in the CBD at 2:40 am on Sunday, in breach of his bail conditions.

“He was charged with breach of bail and remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Youth Court today.

Police continue to encourage any witnesses or anyone whose vehicle was damaged in the CBD over the weekend to contact them on 131 444.
