Drug and Organised Crime Detectives have seized 302.2 grams of methamphetamine following the apprehension of a vehicle on Stuart Highway, Yarrawonga.

Detectives allegedly uncovered 275 grams of methamphetamine secreted in a hat on the front seat of the Ford Falcon Ute and a further 3.3 grams allegedly found in the wallet of the 50 year-old male driver.

Detectives have then followed up with a search warrant on Tulagi Road where Police will allege a further 24 grams of methamphetamine was discovered in a bedroom.  Also seized were a number of pills that have been sent for forensic testing, digital scales and empty clip seals bags.

Detective Acting Superintendent Peter Schiller said Police would seek the forfeiture of the vehicle and will be examining the man’s assets with a view to further forfeiture.

“This is a significant seizure.  Current street deals of 0.1g can sell in Darwin for $200 giving this seizure a potential value in the vicinity of half a million dollars.  We will vigorously pursue the forfeiture of assets in this and any other commercial drug matter.

“Hopefully a Christmas behind bars and no assets to return to may reinforce the message that Territorians don’t want drug dealers operating in our backyard.”

The man was last night charged with possession of a commercial amount of Schedule 2 dangerous drug and remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court this morning.  He was also charged with driving without a licence.
