Alice Springs Police have arrested a 47 year-old man after being alerted to suspicious behaviour by Closed Circuit Television Operators last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Travis Wurst said the CCTV operators also helped Police by guiding them to the alleged offender after the incident.

“The man had allegedly sexually assaulted a female at around 10:30pm last night in the CBD and Police caught up with him a short time later thanks to the good work of CCTV personnel who kept watch until Police could apprehend him.”

Detective Senor Sergeant Wurst said the man is expected to be charged later today.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen a man acting in a suspicious manner in the area of the Yeperenye shopping centre on Hartley Street prior to the incident is urged to contact Police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
