Structure fire - Yulara

Fire and Rescue

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue crews have praised the quick thinking actions of staff who evacuated a building after a fire broke out in a store room at a resort in Yulara overnight.

Around 11pm resort staff responded to a fire alarm where they found smoke coming from a light fitting in the store room. Fire crews arrived on scene a short time later to find the room was fully ablaze.

The fire was extinguished, but significant damage was caused to the room as a result.

Leading Fire Fighter, David Quan praised the actions of resort staff who evacuated the building and contained the guests at a safe distance from the fire.

“Hotel staff did a great job in getting the guests out of bed, out of the building and out of the way during the fire," said Leading Fire Fighter David Quan.

“The fire detection system worked a treat and we can say with confidence that it certainly prevented an incident that could have been much bigger and scarier had it gone unnoticed.”

“It’s a timely reminder to everyone – ensure your smoke detectors are working!”
