Fatal Crash - Katherine

Katherine Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian in Katherine last night.

Superintendent Megan Rowe from Katherine Police said the incident was reported to Police at 7.10pm.

“A 47-year-old male was struck by a vehicle on Gorge Road and has died from injuries received.

“First responders and other witnesses to the incident have attempted first aid on the victim.  He was transported the 500 metres to the Katherine District Hospital where he was unable to be revived.

“The 41-year-old female driving the vehicle that struck the man was uninjured but is understandably distressed over the crash.

Superintendent Rowe said the woman tested negative to a road-side breath test and no charges are likely.

The death takes the 2015 road toll to 16 compared with 19 at the same time last year.
