The NT road toll now stands at 37 following the death of a male in Tennant Creek.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren from the Southern Investigations Division said the incident occurred on the Stuart Highway approximately 12km north of Three Ways.

"Sometime between late last night and early this morning the male appears to have been struck by a vehicle, which has left the scene.

"Police, including Officers from the Alice Springs Major Crash Investigation Unit and Detectives from Tennant Creek are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Stuart Highway is currently blocked off at the scene as investigations are underway.

“Police urge anyone who may have any information as to the car or driver involved, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

A file will be prepared for the Coroner.

The road toll for the same time last year stood at 34.
