Geoff Kenna- Chief Ministers Medal for Emergency Service, Alice Springs Volunteer Fire Brigade, Volunteer Captain
Kathryn Cooper – Volunteer Certificate of Appreciation, NTES volunteer, Alice Springs Volunteer Unit
NTFRS volunteer Geoff Kenna
Geoff joined the Country Fire Association in Victoria 35 years ago as a volunteer firefighter. When he moved to the NT, he continued his involvement as a volunteer with the Alice Springs Rural Brigade and has achieved 20 years’ service, mostly in the role of Captain. Geoff has developed the Brigade into a modern facility with a Tanker and a Grass Fire Unit. The station has also undergone extensive improvements and expansion, the most recent being a large concrete drill pad and driveway.
“Geoff is recognised as a great role model for his volunteers and he acts as a mentor to develop other volunteers. The Alice Springs Rural Volunteer Brigade is a credit to Geoff and his keen volunteer staff. The community is well served in the Alice Springs Rural area and the recent award recognises Geoff’s community spirit, dedication and motivation,” Sothern Command Officer David Letheby.
NTES volunteer Kathryn Cooper
A NTES volunteer since 2011, Kathryn has be involved in numerous events including assisting in Southern Region floods in 2015, Alice Springs Masters Games 2012 and 2014, and many community safety awareness events.
“Kathryn is one of our most valued volunteers, and has contributed many hours of support to the unit. She is always one of the first to put her hand up for tasks and does a lot of behind the scenes work to ensure the unit runs smoothly. She has been the driving force behind multiple fundraisers for the unit,” A/Director Clare Barker.
