Remote Sergeant Plowright wanted to ensure the community is smart, safe and responsible when it comes to the use of social media and the internet.

Alice Springs Youth Engagement Police Officers, Constables First Class Alphonsus Shields and Glen Warrior attended Nyirripi and delivered the lessons information to the students. Following this, they played basketball and other activities with the students.  Constables Warrior and Shields, affectionately known as ‘The Disco Police’ ran a disco for the kids and was well attended and enjoyed by the community. Constable “I can’t dance” Day, showed off her skills performing handstands and other modern dance moves which put smiles on the faces of the crowd watching.

The following day Constables Warrior and Shields delivered the cyber safety lessons to classes in Yuendumu Community. Again this was followed up that evening with a disco and basketball. Sergeant Anne Jolley, OIC of Yuendumu showed off her dancing skills to the amazement (and amusement) of all that were present.

This was a great initiative which not only educated the students in safe use of social media and the internet, but bought Police and the communities of Nyirripi and Yuendumu much closer together.
