Last week this hard working duo arrested a man transporting drugs and alcohol into the restricted area on Bathurst Island.

Remote Sergeant Christopher Grotherr said the man pulled his tinny into the barge landing area and was unloading his cargo when Police arrived.

“He took off into the mangroves to avoid capture and has punched an officer when we intercepted him. The officer quickly recovered and arrested the man who was in possession of 136 grams of cannabis.

Being only a two man station, we are always very busy and often rely on community tip offs. This is a great example of how the community have stepped up to assist us and provide information that led to this arrest. They too want to keep the community safe and don’t want drugs and alcohol here,” he said.

The man appeared in court on the 20 May and was charged with:

  • Possess trafficable quantity of cannabis (137.6 grams)
  • Supply sched Two dangerous drug
  • Assault police

He also had his boat seized.

Well done Wurrumiyanga community.
