Ganbalunya Stone Country Festival was held on Saturday 25th Aug, 2012.
The Stone Country Festival gives the community of Gunbalunya (Oenpelli) the opportunity to share their culture and history with visitors. Visitors had the opportunity to experience traditional art, dancing, painting and bush tucker and contemporary Aboriginal music throughout the evening.
NTES Gunbalunya Unit under the busy eye of unit officer Pauline Cannon ran a café for the day raising funds to go towards equipment for their unit. Maningrida volunteer unit with their Unit Officer Jo Killmister travelled across from Maningrida for the weekend to put on a road crash rescue display and support the NTES crew from Gunbalunya.
“I’m very proud of the volunteers as they have been training very hard in Road Crash Rescue and this event at Oenpelli was the first public display of their skills. We look forward to a future working and training alongside Oenpelli Unit”, said Jo.
Gunbalunya Unit provided a car and a casualty and Maningrida unit members went about the car cutting display showing visitors and community members how a trained and efficient NTES team can safely extract a trapped causality from a car crash.
Well done to Gunbalunya for their efforts and a big thank you to Maningrida NTES for supporting their neighbouring community.
