Over the school holiday period Nhulunbuy Police are running a positive contact road safety enforcement program to encourage all children to wear bicycle helmets and to stay safe on the Northern Territory roads.
The program revolves around positive reinforcement for good behaviour rather than negative contact with Police that might involve being 'told off' and possibly issued with an infringement notice.
Police stop and praise the kids who are doing the right thing such as wearing their helmets and wearing their seatbelt. The kids are then handed a raffle ticket to go into the running to win an XBOX, gift voucher or consolation prize.
This operation will also extend to Yirrkala and Ski Beach.
The prizes have been kindly donated from local Nhulunbuy businesses courtesy of The Chamber of Commerce.
The winners will be drawn at an Open Day BBQ at the Nhulunbuy Police Station in the first week of the new school year.
