Northern Territory Police have charged a 35yo man after a disturbance at a licensed premises in the remote community of Ti Tree.

Shortly after 4:00pm on Saturday, Northern Territory Police were called to a disturbance at the Ti Tree Roadhouse where it was reported two intoxicated men were refusing to leave after being directed by the licensee.

Members from Ti Tree Police Station responded and attempted to remove the two intoxicated patrons. Upon apprehending a 35 yo man, he begun to resist and a struggle has ensued where he has assaulted an officer in the face. The man continued to resist and officers were forced to subdue him using OC Spray.

The man has then attempted to grab one of the officer’s firearm from his holster. Police deployed a Taser which allowed the man to be handcuffed and secured in the police vehicle.

The man was transferred to Ti Tree Police Station where he was later charged with:

  • Assault a member of the Police Force
  • Resist Police in the Execution of their duty
  • Disorderly behaviour in a public place

He has been bailed to appear in Ti Tree Local Court on 12 September 2019.

A 37yo man who hindered police during the incident is expected to be charged in the coming days.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Michael Hebb said, “This abhorrent behaviour is utterly unacceptable”

“Our dedicated police officers do not go to work to be assaulted, what is particularly disturbing about this incident is the man’s alleged attempt at grabbing an officer’s firearm. This will not be tolerated and anyone who assaults a police officer will be put before the courts” he said.
