Traffic Campaign – Palmerston and Humpty Doo

Friday 30-Nov-2018 10:54

Officers from the Darwin Metropolitan Command have wrapped up a traffic campaign targeting the Palmerston and rural area this week.

The two day joint campaign included the Palmerston, Road Policing, Firearms, East Arnhem and Air Wing Divisions and started on Wednesday with a major Random Breath Testing (RBT) station on the Stuart Highway in Palmerston. Yesterday’s RBT was conducted on the Arnhem Highway in Humpty Doo.

Police checked the speed and registration of more than one thousand vehicles. Twelve drivers were issued with traffic infringement notices, while three had their vehicles defected.

Two drivers returned positive results for alcohol at .054 and .101 percent and were issued with notices to appear in court.

Police also used the RBT as an opportunity to educate motorists. Pamphlets with information on Road Ready (Safety), Victims of Crime and the “Lock it or lose it” campaign were handed out.

Senior Sergeant Nathan Finn said revellers should make sure they’ve organised a Sober Bob or plan B to get home safely this festive season.

NT Police will be out there engaging with the public, providing education on road safety and crime prevention whilst enforcing traffic laws this Christmas and News Years period,” Senior Sergeant Finn said.
