Vehicle Seized – Anti-Hooning – Katherine

Tuesday 27-Nov-2018 15:36

Katherine Police have seized a vehicle under anti-hooning legislation.

Around 2:45pm on 26 November police allege the driver of a green Commodore revved his vehicle loudly and performed a burnout. This was witnessed by police officers who were in the vicinity attending another incident.

Around midday today police located the vehicle on First Street. The 22-year-old driver was apprehended by police.

The vehicle was seized for 48 hours and towed away by a local contractor.

Detective Sergeant Ian Kennon said that with an already high road toll this type of behaviour on the road is just unacceptable.

“The driver was issued with a $260 traffic infringement notice as a result of his actions. He will now be required to pay the contractors towing and storage fees to recover the vehicle after the 48 hour period.

“Northern Territory Police encourage the public to continue to report any incidences of dangerous driving,” he said.

Anyone with information can contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
