Investigators from Strike Force Trident are investigating a number of break-ins overnight within the Casuarina area.

A White Mazda CX5 was stolen from an unlocked residence in Wanguri sometime overnight. At around 1:00 in the morning the vehicle was then used to ram the front doors of a shop in Anula which caused approximately $30,000 damage. There did not appear to be any evidence that the shop was entered by the occupants of the vehicle. The vehicle became lodged in the debris and was towed out due to the damage.

It is believed that the break-in at Wanguri and the stolen motor vehicle were linked to four other businesses broken into in the Casuarina area around the same time. Although minimal property was stolen there was substantial damage.

Schools in Millner and Casuarina were also unlawfully entered. A school in Humpty Doo was also reportedly broken into yesterday. Police are investigating whether there are any possible links to the unlawful entries in Casuarina.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan said two unlocked residences in Muirhead were also broken into overnight however police don’t think they are linked to the stolen motor vehicle.

“This is a timely reminder for all residents to ensure their houses are secured before going to bed. This is an example of how one simple omission can cause such heartache for others” he said.

Anyone with information of any of these incidents is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
