Two men have been charged after nearly 40 litres of alcohol was found in the vehicle they were travelling in, allegedly bound for an Indigenous community.

Apprehending the vehicle on the Arnhem Highway west of the South Alligator River, Jabiru police conducted a breath analysis on the driver who returned a reading of .088g.

The vehicle was then searched and the assortment of liquor was found. The assortment comprised of approximately 21 litres of spirits, 8.5 litres of beer and eight litres of wine.

The 30-year-old driver was issued a Notice to Appear for medium range drink driving and bringing liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area.

The 25-year-old owner of the vehicle, a passenger, was issued a Notice to Appear for bringing liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area.
