250,000 Reward on Offer – Hit and Run – Threeways

Thursday 18-May-2017 14:22

Northern Territory Police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run that occurred near the Threeways Roadhouse between 11:50pm on Friday 28 November and 3:00am on Saturday 29 November 2014.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Murphy said it has been nearly two and a half years since the body of 38-year-old Kwementyaye Nelson, was located on the side of the Stuart Highway, approximately 12 kilometres north of the Threeways Roadhouse.

“A $250,000 reward is now being offered for information that leads to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death,” Assistant Commissioner Murphy said.

“People using the Stuart Highway will notice signs on the side of the road where Kwementyaye Nelson passed away calling for information.

“Investigations so far suggest that the victim was most likely walking south on the Stuart Highway and that the vehicle that hit him was also traveling south.

“It is believed he was struck from behind and was lying in the middle of the road for a short time before being moved to the edge of the road. Medical advice is that due to his injuries, he would not have been able to move himself. Someone moved him 13 metres onto the side of the road, without rendering any medical assistance or notifying emergency services.

“We also believe Kwementyaye Nelson may have survived his injuries had he been given timely medical attention.

“Someone out there has knowledge of this crime – in particular the person or persons responsible – and I urge them to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. This can be done anonymously.

“The smallest piece of information may be just what the police need to make a breakthrough, and help bring closure to Kwementyaye Nelson’s family.”
