A 22-year-old woman has passed away from injuries suffered during a single vehicle rollover on Saturday 26 November.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said the woman was airlifted to Alice Springs Hospital following the rollover which occurred on the Barkly Highway.
“Unfortunately she passed away early this morning. She is the second passenger to pass away from the crash, which included the death of a 2-month-old child,” he said.
“Both were ejected from the vehicle due to not being properly restrained. A number of other passengers are recovering from a variety of other injuries.
“Major Crash detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of this crash. The driver is yet to be charged.
“Following this latest tragedy, NT Police are urging motorists to stay safe on our roads.
“Four people have died on Territory roads in the past three weeks. It is believed that all of them were not wearing seatbelts or properly restrained during vehicle rollover crashes.
“Seatbelts and child restraints save lives and prevent unnecessary deaths. In the lead-up to the festive season, police implore all Territorians to buckle-up, said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner.
The Territory road toll now stands at 41, compared with 43 this time last year.
