Alcohol Seized - Central Arnhem Highway

Police have charged a 47-year-old man with a number of traffic offences and for bringing alcohol into a Protected Area after seizing over 19 litres of alcohol during a traffic apprehension.

Acting Superintendent Meghan Funnell said Police apprehended a Nissan Patrol on the Central Arnhem Highway, 20 kilometres south of Bulman, at around 9:20pm yesterday for the purpose of a breath test.

“The male driver returned a positive result and was arrested. He later returned a reading of 0.169% BrAc.

“Police also conducted a search of the vehicle and sized 15 litres of beer, three litres of wine and 1.2 litres of rum. The Nissan Patrol was also seized by Police.

“Further investigations revealed the driver was unlicensed and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. The male was also in breach of his Domestic Violence Order.”

He was charged with:

  • Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • Drive with high range blood alcohol content
  • Engage in a conduct that contravenes a Domestic Violence Order
  • Bring Liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area
  • Drive an unregistered motor vehicle
  • Drive an uninsured motor vehicle
  • Breach a Suspended Sentence

A 45-year-old male passenger was charged with Bring Liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area and Breach of a Suspended Sentence.

A 51-year-old female passenger received a Notice to Appear for Bring Liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area.

The driver and male passenger will appear in Katherine Magistrates Court today.
