Three Charged - Methamphetamine Seized - Mataranka

Members from the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk have seized a quantity of methamphetamine following a traffic apprehension.

Detective Superintendent Kris Evans said at around 11:00am yesterday a blue Holden Commodore pulled into a vehicle check point established just outside of Mataranka.

“Upon a search of the vehicle Police located 150 grams of methamphetamine (Ice) secreted under the passenger seat of the vehicle.”

Three males aged 23, 25 and 32 were arrested and charged with:

  • Possess commercial quantity of methamphetamine
  • Supply commercial quantity of methamphetamine
  • Possess thing to administer dangerous drug

They will appear in Katherine Magistrates Court today.

“Police will allege that these drugs were destined for Darwin, where they were to be sold,” said Detective Superintendent Evans.

“Ice is terrible drug that is causing pain and anguish to our community. It is an illegal drug made in unhygienic conditions and manufactured by unqualified people. The Police are committed to apprehending those that seek to profit from its supply.”
