Wednesday 25-Nov-2015 16:16

The Cross Border Team charged a 56-year-old man yesterday with supplying a commercial quantity of cannabis.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Bedwell said NT Police were investigating an earlier cannabis seizure, which revealed a larger criminal network involved in transporting drugs from Adelaide to Tennant Creek.

“Police received intelligence that the 56-year-old man was involved in transporting more than four pounds of cannabis from Adelaide to Tennant Creek, once a month since April 2015.

“Police allege that the total amount received by the offender was more than 20 pounds over a six month period, with a potential street value of over $180,000.

“The man was arrested and taken to the Tennant Creek Police Station on the 24 November where he was interviewed.

The 56-year-old man was charged with:

5 x counts of supply cannabis (commercial quantity)

1 x count of possess cannabis

1 x count of ammunition without a permit

1 x count of possess prohibited weapon

The man has been remanded in custody and will appear in the Alice Springs Court tomorrow.

“This is another great result for the Cross Border Team and we will continue to work with the SA and WA Police to reduce the transport of illicit substances into the tri-border area,” Detective Sergeant Bedwell said.
