Operation Breust results - Darwin

NT Police have concluded Operation Breust which ran from the 11th to 15th of March.

The Operation targeted liquor and drug trafficking to the Tiwi Islands for the football festival.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Malogorski said the operation had the desired result of disrupting profiteering on the communities.

“Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk units, Dog Operation Units and the Water Police screened over 900 passengers and thousands of items of freight heading to the islands over the five days.

“One person was arrested, seven were issued Drug Infringement Notices, six were given Notice To Appear in court and three received Liquor Infringement Notices.

“Police seized 500 grams of kava, 466 grams of cannabis and 22 litres of alcohol.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Malogorski said a 52-year-old woman was charged with possess and supply trafficable quantity of cannabis after 200 grams was allegedly found in her possession.

“Police will continue to conduct operations targeting drug and alcohol couriers on flight and ferry services to remote communities.

“If you transport dangerous drugs or alcohol to remote communities you will be caught and you will face court.”
