NT Police Personal Safety Program

Thursday 30-Apr-2015 10:01

Northern Territory Police Youth Engagement Officers carry out a proactive policing role through the establishment of positive relationships with students, parents and teaching staff to promote a supportive learning environment and safer school communities.

Superintendent Travis Wurst, Alice Springs Police said all Youth Engagement Police Officer’s in their role deliver the same “Personal Safety” messages as the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

The presentation is based around three key messages:

R – Recognising the danger
R – Reacting to the danger
R – Reporting the danger

“Young People are educated on the types of emotions they feel when in danger and how to react and manage those feelings to ensure a safe outcome for themselves.

“Youth Engagement Officers also utilise the “000 Challenge” website as an interactive tool that the students can use, learn and engage with emergency services.

“If any schools or community groups are interested in the NT Police delivering the program a request can be made through your local Police Station,” Superintendent Wurst said. If interested in utilising the “000” website refer to the link attached: http://kids.triplezero.gov.au/index.php?lang=en
