Community Education
Community Education is a key component of our work and we offer presentations which discuss important fire safety issues, and gives simple advice on how to reduce the risk of fire to you and your family no matter where you are.
The Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) has a school based education program that it delivers to junior primary school students in urban schools and can visit your school to talk to your class about fire safety. We also encourage schools to visit our fire stations as part of our school based program, to look over our fire trucks and talk to our firefighters about fire safety.
School children living in remote areas of the Northern Territory are also able to access school based fire awareness education through a program the NTFRS have developed for remote schools. The program known as “Smart Sparx” incorporates an interactive DVD, musical CD, story book, lesson plans, games and puppets. The Smart Sparx program is available from stations through a loan system.
We can also provide your community group meeting with a presenter to discuss fire safety and fire preparedness issues to the meeting. For school visits or fire safety presentations please contact our Education Officer on telephone 8946 4128.
